What is a normal SGPT (ALT) level?
A commonly used adult reference range is about 7 to 55 U/L for men and 7 to 45 U/L for women. SGPT and ALT are the same test, just different names for it. Exact cut-offs vary a little by lab and method, so check the range printed on your own report first, and don’t read a single raised value on its own: your doctor looks at it alongside the rest of your LFT panel and your history.
What is a normal SGOT (AST) level?
A commonly used adult reference range is about 8 to 48 U/L for men and 8 to 43 U/L for women. SGOT and AST are the same test. AST is found in the liver and in muscle and heart tissue, so a raised AST alone doesn’t point to the liver specifically; it’s usually read together with ALT and the rest of the panel by a doctor.
What does a high bilirubin level mean on an LFT report?
Total bilirubin above roughly 1.2 mg/dL is generally flagged high on an adult report, and direct (conjugated) bilirubin above about 0.3 mg/dL is flagged high. A raised bilirubin can have many different explanations and is not something this tool can diagnose. Share the full report, including the direct/indirect split, with your doctor.
